A hotel that wants to provide the best service

buffet breakfast at Hotel Villa Carlotta TaorminaBefore we had even arrived at this luxury Taormina hotel we were impressed with the service. We had originally booked with their sister hotel, the Villa Ducale, but owing to a mix up they could not honour their booking. We were offered an equivalent room at the Hotel Carlotta as well as a complimentary dinner by way of an apology. This was a lovely gesture and made us feel that the hotel really cared about their customers.
On arrival at the hotel you have to park on the main road outside the entrance in order to unload. However everything is taken care of very calmly by the very helpful reception staff. The luggage unloaded and the car taken away and parked for you. Not a cheap facility (15 euros per night) but worth it for the convenience and comfort of knowing your car is secure.

We had a junior suite which was a lovely room although there was not a lot of space between the end of the bed and the desk. We overlooked the garden and the sea which provided a lovely view. The room was very clean and well decorated. The free DVD loan service was a very nice touch which we made use of.

The standard of food was high. The breakfast was the most extensive out of all the 5 hotels we stayed in during our stay in Sicily with hot bacon, scrambled eggs and flan. Our only slight disappointment was that the very impressive number of other dishes (mushrooms, tomotoes stuffed with cheese, chipped potatoes etc) were all served cold. It may be an English thing but It would have been so much nicer if these were served hot. However overall the variety and quality was excellent.
We ate dinner in the restaurant each evening and whilst the food was good it was not exceptional. The restuarant setting is superb overlooking the sea, coast and Etna. we were able to take our breakfast outside on the last morning which was a lovely experience.
The best things about this hotel were undoubtedly the staff and in particular the reception staff. They make you feel that nothing is too much trouble and that their one aim is to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Customer Service is everything and that is why this hotel rates so highly.
